PPS Regional Event
Friday-Monday, 11-14 May 2012.
The Pikes Peak Section Regional Event, Wines and Wheels Weekend, is coming up fast and would make a perfect Mother's Day present for yourself or someone you love. It’s a scenic, relaxing drive to bucolic Palisade where you’ll check in to the Victorian-style Wine Country Inn, situated in the foothills of the Western Slope of Colorado, smack in the middle of 20 acres of vineyards. According to Wine Enthusiast Magazine, the Inn is one of the seven premier vineyard properties in the United States. Here's what they had to say, "The Inn's 80 rooms are within walking distance of two wineries and a short drive away from 24 more. Other activities feature lolling on wraparound porches with rocking chairs and an afternoon wine tasting." The Wine Country Inn is Colorado's first wine-themed hotel and is the only Colorado property named on this list of top US vineyard properties. We will be sure to time our arrival to coincide with the afternoon wine tasting and maybe get in a quick tour of the onsite wineries. Our event coordinator has arranged for very special room rates for our event - $118 per night for king rooms. Call Cheryl Kerbs at 800-878-2929x177 or email her at cheryl.kerbs@frosch.com to make your reservation.
On Saturday, we will caravan along Colorado Scenic and Historic Byway 114 to Gateway Canyons for the Gateway Canyons Classic Auto Fest, a festival that celebrates the joy of motorized travel. Classic and antique cars from the early 1900s through the 1970s will be on display and this year's featured cars will be Camaros and Firebirds. Not to be missed are the hot rods, muscle cars, and pick-up trucks that round out the exhibition. The Classic Auto Fest coincides with the anniversary of the Gateway Colorado Auto Museum, a premier repository for some of the nation's most celebrated vehicles. It is the personal collection of John Hendricks, founder of the Discovery Channel. The museum houses 45 of the most prized cars in the country including the 1954 Oldsmobile F-88 concept car. Your $15 entry fee to the Classic Auto Fest includes entry to the festival grounds, admission to the Gateway Colorado Auto Museum, and a charitable donation to the Partners Program.
On Sunday, we have a variety of activities planned, beginning with winery tours up and down the valley. For the ladies, you can make reservations for the Wine Country Inn’s very special, 3-course Mother's Day Tea. If the guys don’t want to do tea, they can play golf at a reduced rate at Redlands Mesa Golf Resort or just relax and enjoy the Inn's amenities. We understand some might need to head back to the "real world" to be at work on Monday, but for those with the time, we encourage you to spend an extra night at the Inn.
We have arranged dining options for each night, beginning with tapas from the Tapestry Lounge at the Inn, a very popular local favorite. Saturday night we’ll be visiting Inari’s, a Japanese Bistro in Palisade. The famous Pikes Peak Section Hospitality Suite will be up and running each night so plan to join us there nightly for drinks and snacks and to compare experiences and photos. There is an event fee of $20 per person that covers such things as the hospitality suite, prizes, and dash plaques. Room charges, entry fees, and meal costs are the responsibility of the participants. Plan to join us for a wonderful weekend.
