On Saturday, November 9, 2019, the Board of Directors of Chicagoland Section honored Past MBCA President Bill Knauz for his 55 years of membership with a dinner and a commemorative crystal plaque at Del Rio Restaurant in Highwood, Illinois.

Bill’s father took a chance during the Great Depression and risked his entire life savings, and by 1934, he had opened a car service station in Lake Forest. From there, he joined forces with Chrysler and opened a Desoto Plymouth dealer in 1935, and then became a Chrysler franchise in 1940. Bill worked at the dealership throughout his childhood and began full-time in 1947. He left the business to serve in Korea for the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. While Bill was serving in the army, Knauz added Mercedes Benz in 1959, Since then, Knauz Autopark has expanded to 30 sprawling acres in Lake Bluff, Illinois,  which today makes it one of the oldest Mercedes dealers in the country.  Since the beginning, the Knauz family has weathered the good times and the bad, taking care of customers using The Golden Rule.
