On January 18th, 2020 members from the Jackson area of The Mississippi Section of the Mercedes Benz Club Of America drove the 150+ miles to D'Iberville and met up with our coastal members to hold our first event of 2020 as guests at the Mercedes-Benz of South Mississippi dealership for a tech session and lunch. We even had some members of the Ozark Section and new members of our Section join us too. The general manager Chris Steuben and the service manager Carlos Watson were very welcoming and spent a considerable amount of time with us as hosts and leaders of our event. Carlos explained their multi-point inspection process and gave us a tour of the service center, while discussing the MBCA member benefits. At lunch our Section presented to the dealership a plaque of an article in the Star Magazine in 2018. The dealership provided door prizes and allowed us to park in front of the show room for a photo opportunity. We greatly appreciate the time and effort that Mercedes-Benz of South Mississippi put into this Tech Session for us and hope to continue growing our club-to-dealer relationship with them.

In the afternoon, our entertainment consisted of a tour of Beauvoir, The Jefferson Davis home and Presidential Library in Biloxi, Mississippi. The home and estate face the Gulf Coastline giving way to great views of the Gulf of Mexico. The tour was filled with history of the South during and after the Civil War, interesting information about the home, and artifacts were presented in the Presidential Library, built by the US National Archives and Records Administration in 1998. Regardless of any views about the South's Secession, this tour is very informative and shares some insight on our National history. We even found that one of our members great grandfather had been a personal friend of Jefferson Davis. Beauvoir is well worth the visit if you ever find yourself on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Later in the evening many of us met at the famous Mary Mahoney‘s restaurant in Biloxi. This restaurant is centered around the home of French colonist Louis Frasier, built in 1737. The menu is full of New Orleans style fixings and fresh gulf seafood. We gathered in the “ Carriage House“ and had a very fun time with excellent food and friends. The owner, Bobby Mahoney, even came by and entertained us briefly with some jokes and humorous stories. Everyone had a great time and we look forward to many more events in 2020.
